Bio: Coach Jacob Velasquez's playing experience began at a very young age, and includes many accomplishments. He played four years of high school volleyball at the varsity level. As co-captain, he led his team to second place once, and to first place three times. He, as head captain, led a team to the bronze medal at the Junior Olympic National Volleyball Championships in 1998. Also as head captain, he led his team to the gold medal at the Junior Olympic National Volleyball Championships, and was named MVP, in 2000. In addition, he played and won gold in many outdoor volleyball tournaments throughout California. His experiences as a volleyball player at a highly competitive level ended after graduating from high school, although his experiences as a leader continued as he went on to become a member of the United States Marine Corps.
Bringing with him his experiences as both a player and a leader, Coach Jacob Velasquez has coached two teams of men in volleyball for an intramural volleyball league at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, as well as two teams of young ladies in volleyball for Infinity Volleyball Academy. As a coach, he strives to inspire players both to set high goals for themselves and to become determined to achieve those goals. His approach is to attempt to be an example for his players to emulate. Currently, this approach is made most evident not just by his willingness to hold himself, as a coach, to the highest standards, but also by his pursuit of an advanced degree, as a Ph.D. student. Coach Jacob Velasquez hopes that, by setting such an example, his players will be led to success both on the volleyball court and off the volleyball court.
